PCI-E Lanes Sound Card

Thread Starter
Hey guys, just a quick question. On my MOBO, I know that my two 580's are running at 8x/8x in PCI-E. I am just wondering, if I put a PCI-E sound card (Asus Xonar DX) in there, is it going to affect the video cards (like a 8x/4x/4x type deal) Sorry for the Noob question, I just want to get my facts straight before I buy tomorrow.

Also, I am looking for some good 2.0 speakers (I know that sound card would rather a surround sound system, but I mostly play with head phones anyways). I am buying them from memory express/future shop. I'm torn between these :

As always, thanks for the help.

Its quite sad that no-one has bothered to answer a question as simple as this.

But here is you answer:

No its should affect the performance. The x16 lanes are designed to run at either x16 or x8 depending on the GPU configuration...sometimes x4, but thats somewhat rare these days. A PCI-E sound card is desgined to only FIT in a x1 slot. It is extremely unlikely that it will use up the full bandwidth.

If, there is a performance loss, you might only see about 1-3 fps drop.

Also I found you gain a few FPS by disabling onboard audio, So I guess it evens out in the end.
