Angry about what? I just don't get why you would make a thread dooming high-end PCs when you don't know what you're talking about.

You say "in theory" but don't detail this theory.

Do you think it makes sense to send information that NEEDS to be processed instantly on the fly over congested networks and then back again?

Okay then explain what these two Cvars are and why they exist?

r_ShaderCompilerServer
r_ShadersRemoteCompiler

With them enabled and unable to contact the server, some textures are missing, performance is a whole bugger out with low GPU usage and the console being filled with messages of "retrying connection to x ip address."

Disabling the cvars, or this function yields your computer getting stressed with the full load of the game on its shoulders. Which is, I know, a more favorable situation than constantly sending texture data back and forth between you and a remote host.

Sounds similar to onlive.

Except that's streamed video. This could mean streamed shadow/textures?

Eg. Shadow calculations already pre-processed for your graphics card to render?

It may be incorrect, but he was just observing a setting and making a hypothesis. No need to flame

Edit: inb4 can your server cluster run crysis2

Thanks for clearing that up.

Seriously, some people are so quick to judge.
