Quick question

Thread Starter
I have a spare pc with a prescott celeron d and some akasa CPU fan, and it is extremely loud and quite hot (possibly due to lots of crap thermal paste). I have a spare 45nm pentium dual/core 2 duo stock cooler lying around. Is it good enough to cool it, or would changing the thermal paste to mx-3 help more.

Stock C2D HSF are usually sized for a TDP of 65-73W, while that Prescott must be around 130W, so it may not be enough. Try some new thermal paste, but from experience, if you want to cool the P4 reasonably well and keep it quiet you need big coolers. I silenced one with a 10$ second hand Thermaltake Big Typhoon (120mm fan and 4 heatpipes), nothing less worked.
