Please help to clear some confusion..

Thread Starter
So i ran prime95 test for few hours with specs bellow @1.4125V vcore, and 1.9V vdimm(which is max recommended for my ram) and prime95 return no errors, but if i push say 255FSB i cant get to OS..im confused why i can only push that low and not quite sure whats really bottlenecking my OC
i wonder maybe i should lower my memory setting and loose the timings (as i heard AMD systems dont benefit that much from lower timings) and try to push FSB some more to get better overall core speed (since i saw in internet people overclocked same CPU as mine to even 3ghz), but if push FSB system will become even more unstable, because its probably my ram which cant handle it, cpuz screens:

so what are my options? cant increase vcore, because temps are already at 50C at full load also HT multiplier set to 4x

Try lowering the multiplier on your RAM. Though I'll bet it may well be that your motherboard just doesn't want to do it.

yep thats what im about to do, im not sure about the timmings tho should i keep them or loose them? also how low can i drop my HT multiplier, i red some guides and it says you cant go below 800mhz, maybe there are exceptions to that?

Keep the RAm timings on auto. Just drop the RAM multiplier at least one notch. Keep the HT close to 2000mHz. Only mess with one thing at a time. This test is to see if your board/CPU will go higher or if in fact your RAM is getting in the way.

Drop your cpu multi x8 and try more fsb.Your cpu is oc'd,you want it below stock for fsb testing.

If you need more cpu voltage go to advanced voltage control and enable cpu offset voltage.(50mv)

That will give you .05v more to work with. 1.4625V instead of 1.4125v.

You may want to drop the cpu volts a couple of notches or more, before enabling though, and use it as you need it.

Is the 2gb of ram one stick or 1x1gb?

I see it's running in single channel.

Good luck

Don't keep the timings on Auto. Manually set them to what they are supposed to be for the 800 speed on the SPD page of CPU-Z (that and voltage). "Otto" doesn't always get things right and may set timings too tight.

Is your ram in the right slots?

wow that sounds like a serious stuff, thx for pointing that out!
my ram was on slots #3 and #4 i tried to move them to slots 1 and 2, but same thing - single channel. any idea what may cause this? yep i got 2 sticks 1gb each..maybe a faulty ram or ports? should i run few passes of memtest on stock settings before attempting anything else?

Try slots 1 / 3 then .

Also, your problem is your RAM timings. Loosen them to 5-5-5-15, give them like 2.0v or so. You'll be able to push a little higher this way. Once it becomes an issue again, you'll likely need to drop the divider down to 667 in BIOS.

You're at DDR2-833 @ 4-4-4-12 right now. That's tough on such generic sticks of memory like you have. AData sticks generally aren't all that great.

Loosen your timings, bring your vDIMM up to around 2.0v, and go at it. Should get you a little higher . Obviously, get your RAM sticks in the right slots (likely 1 and 3).

damn how stupid of me
that fixed it right away and now - Dual channel ..just out of curiosity what the real benefit from dual channel instead of single, less pressure on 1 channel and it is divided between 2 of them, something like raid system with hard drives?
now i can get on to overclocking if ill get something decent (say 3Ghz+, which will i bet wont happen) ill try to post my results

so my idea is to boost vdimm to the max i can get in bios - 1.95v, maybe try to boost some vcore, keep stock timings and drop divider to ddr667, because with only 250fsb i can get my memory speeds back to normal ddr800 speeds

Dual Channel = kinda sorta like a RAID0 for hard drives. It doubles your bandwidth from single channel. There is no reason to NOT use it, and tons of reasons why you should avoid single channel .

If max vDIMM is 1.95v...that's a good start. 1.95v won't kill DDR2 at all. Especially if those have heatspreaders. Even if they don't, they should still take 1.95v easy.

Set your timings to 5-5-5-15-20 (TRC) manually in your BIOS. 2T Command Rate. That will give you some headroom as well.

667 divider, and use "unganged mode" if you have that option. Once you start getting up to around 265 - 270 reference clock, you'll likely have to back the RAM back down again, just to be sure its not the problem.

You have a Windor core X2. You can expect 3.0GHz easy enough out of it . Just have to tweak with it enough, and understand what you're doing.
