Radeon HD 4890 vs Geforce GTX 460???????

Thread Starter
Ok now ive been viewing both of the cards and im not really worried about price. But what had really intrigued me was that the Radeon HD 4890 had a 3 way SLI capability, when the GTX 460 did not. NOW, me being a NVIDIA fanboy, I really do trust NVIDIA over ATI ANYDAY. But what seems here is extremely tempting. What should I get, 2 bridged GTX 460s (that will indeed be OCd in the future) or 3 bridged Radeon HD 4890?????confused.gif

Are these your only choices?
A single 460 is faster than a 4890 but not by much (stock)
Now i will take a wild guess here is that 2x 460 are better than 3 4890. 48xx series are not that great in xfire (multi gpu config).
Generally ati (amd now) has progressed alot, they are really really catching up with nvidia.
If you have other choices then a gtx560s series or 6870s are better.
Gtx 460 has dx 11 4890 only dx 10 (also 10.1).

ok quick additional question how about a Radeon HD 5770????
I'd go with two 460's in SLI. 4890's are very powerful, but your spending more on a setup that won't scale as well, lack DX11, will run hotter, louder and be more power hungry.

Two 5770's will be good too, but I'd spend the little extra for two 6850's instead.

If you arent worried about price wwhy limit yourself to low grade xfire/sli rather than a top grade single that will outperform both?

well im not worried about price, UNLESS ITS RIDICULOUSLY HIGH LIKE THE NEW GTX 570s AND WHATNOT. But i was just wanting to know will 2 gtx 460s out perform 3 Radeon HD 5770s
post #9 of 26
Two 460's will perform similar/exceed a single GTX 480, so basically 570 level's. Three 5770's should go faster, but I don't know how well a third GPU scales in the 5XXX series.
