Promedia Subwoofer Cone Torn

Thread Starter
The sub was sounding a little off so I looked under my desk to find a big chunk of the surround just torn off. I was able to find some of what tore off, but not all of it. Is there any easy way to repair this foam?

Would I just be better off getting a new driver? The current sub is 50W RMS, and goes down to 31 Hz. Here are two that I found after some searching, and that is pretty much what I am willing to pay.

buying a replacement might be the best bet.

there are kits to replace broken/torn surrounds.

You just need to refoam your subwoofer, no biggy.

You can buy a surround repair kit. Partsexpress carries them, they're like $10-12 or so last time I looked.

If you'd rather not screw with it, go with that Tang Band driver. That thing is seriously awesomesauce in a 6.5" package .

That would be what I need to repair? I feel like then I might as well spend an extra $40, and get a new driver. So the Tang Band should get the job done well?

Yup, that would be it.

And that Tang Band 6.5" is honestly an AMAZING driver for being so small. You'll likely be shocked at the difference it makes .

I have a spare sub, my amp on a set of ProMedias broke so I bought a new amp/sub combo.

So I have a working sub that I would sell you. Price would be in between a re-foam kit, and a brand new driver. Maybe like $30, or trade for something?

Thanks for the offer, but it seems like an upgrade to the Tang Bang would do me better. I have been noticing my sub's weaknesses lately anyway.

Thanks for all the help guys

It might also be a fun thing to think about, but consider building a new enclosure for it as well if you go with the Tang Band. That Tang Band would really open up with low notes with a bigger ported, or even better a T-Line box. You could still mount your original amplifier and stuff to the back of it too.

If not, it should sound considerably better in the stock cabinet anyway. Assuming that's a ported box, the Tang Band SHOULD pick up a little lower than the stock driver. And hit all notes considerably better.
