I am now an AMD user!

Thread Starter
Since I've first gotten into PCs around three years ago, I've used an Allendale, Wolfdale, and Yorkfield Core 2 chips. Today is my first day as an AMD user and man, I am impressed!

Haters gonna hate .

No, I am by no means an AMD fanboy either. I pick what suites my wallet the best. My current setup cost me $25 for the CPU, $50 for the mobo, and $50 for the RAM. There's no way I could have built a comparible Intel setup with that money. If I would have had closer to a $400 budget for those parts, I could have gotten an i5 setup.

And OP, enjoy your new rig . It's a solid platform. Intel beats it...sure. But not by enough to make them worth the extra money to me.

Glad you enjoy your new rig.
Most people for whatever reason have a pretty strong bias and blow most comparisons to intel chips completely out of proportion.

I made the mistake of going intel once since the Pentium 2, with my laptop and was burned by a socket change and the ridiculous implementation of a 32 bit addressable memory controller.. Honestly, in a 64 bit capable DDR2 laptop why you would deploy such a thing is beyond my intellectual reasoning. Also, changing sockets simply to facilitate a faster FSB (Socket M to socket P) and increase profits is annoying in the least.

/rant.
Have fun in AMD land

Thanks everyone

I picked this chip up after a few weeks of deliberating. I won't lie, the i7s were the frontrunners but they were a bit too expensive for me. The PII x6s offered me close-enough performance but at a great price. Slapped the chip in and so far I'm impressed! The only complaint I have really is that the stock cooler can get a tad bit loud, but hey, given how beefy it is and how well it's cooling my CPU, I can let that slide.

All in all, for the money, this is definitely a great jump for me

Same, but uh *Points to sig* Most of my money is spent elsewhere

I switched from Intel to AMD myself after the Intel p67 incident was not happy having to spend a couple hours getting my system back up and running because of Intel making a defective chipset.

AMD for the win
