I've always gone for bang for buck and its always seemed to alternate between intel and AMD. Same for nvidia and AMD/ATI with the GPU's.

Thats just how it worked out at the time of buying. I like both camps though.

Pick up a coolermaster Hyper 212+ for $35~$40 after shipping and OC the cpu a bit! Or at least enjoy silent running.

When I first installed my CM Hyper 212+, I didn't have the fan pin pushed in all the way so it wouldn't spin at all. My idle temps after windows booted up were 29c. At first I was like "*** 4c higher than the stock cooler?? Crap what did I do wrong..." then i realized the HS was completely passive without that fan running. =D
Ambient temp in room: 23c usually. 19c at the moment. basement D:!

The 212+ is sweet. I'm running 27c no fan, with 23/24c ambient.

TBH, I only went intel because I could get this i7 for around $300. Once Intel hikes their prices up again on Ivy I'm gonna sell this CPU and Mobo and buy a Bulldozer.

Nice rig though.

Yes same thing. If you cant use it, saying you can unlock 4 cores is stupid. I unlocked 4 cores, one was crap (basically could not boot), so stuck with the 3 good cores.

Cant complain, 50% more performance for no extra cost.

It's just the phrasing that throws me off.
X2 was marketed as having 2 usable cores, with 2 deactivated cores.
If you 'unlocked 3 cores', that would imply that you have your 2 usable cores and somehow activated 3 cores on top of that.

'Unlocking' a CPU core that's already marketed and sold as a functional part of the chip is similar to 'unlocking' a doorframe which contains no door...

On a side note, a quick and dirty OC yielded 3.45 GHz with 1.33VCore. Not sure how this fares against usual AMD chips, but I'm pleased with how easy it is and the surprisingly low temps I'm getting with the stock cooler @ 50% fan speed.
