Anything I should be worried about? / A few questions.

Well, obviously errors are something to worry about, but I recently ran a 10-minute CPU Stress Test with AMD Overdrive, and along all lines I got stuck with this particular error.

"FPU Test > An error occurs in the Taylor Series expansion of arctan(x) function"

I Googled it, looked on Wikipedia, everything, still have no idea.

Now, I'm not illiterate when it comes to most computer-oriented things, but this is a bit far for my knowledge. I'm curious as to what this means exactly (if anyone knows, I'm not trying to ask to much of anyone), how (if possible) to fix it, and how detrimental it could be to my overclocking.

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

On a lighter note, I got my CPU overclocked to 3838 MHz earlier today (which is currently where it's at now). biggrin.gif I still, however, want to see if I can get it to 4.0 GHz without obliterating my system. ._. Right now I'm using AMD Overdrive (I know, I'm cheating, ;P I just haven't gotten around to using my BIOS yet)

All Core Multipliers are at 19x, my HT Multiplier is at 10 (which is the maximum), and my HT Ref. Clock (which I'm assuming is my bus speed) is at 202. CPU VID is at 1.4V.

I got it to about 4100 MHz on all cores earlier today, but my computer hated it. I had to reset my BIOS to default settings and tweak things around a lot to fix it.

I was wondering if I there were a few things I could change to keep it there without any problems (I just want to get it to 4.0GHz). I had my CPU VID at 1.450V, my multipliers at 20x for all cores, my HT Ref. Clock at max and my bus speed at 205 or 206. Was there something I did wrong there (do I have to change any other settings?), or can my PC just not take it? (Since it's obviously having issues even at 3.74 GHz.)

If need, I'll post a screenshot somehow (although I'm using LogMeIn Ignition at the moment to look at my actual computer) of AMD Overdrive, and go from there.

I'm not asking anyone to do this for me, although it kind of seems like it. I'm researching everything I'm having problems with, too, so please know I am at least trying to make an effort. I just want to know if I'll be able to OC to 4.0 (if so, all I'm looking for is a hint for what I need to do xD), or if I should wait til' I have a better setup.

Thank you.

Unstable overclock.
You'll likely need more than 1.4v for anything higher but make sure you're using an aftermarket cooler.

Now this is interesting. No idea what an FPU test exactly means, but I'm thinking also it is unstable CPU.
But why is a Phenom II x4 970, basically the highest-end of AMD x4 processors, paired with the rock-bottom tier generic memory here? frown.gif
Not that it matters entirely or may hold back overclocking, but this is definitely something to consider.

So increase voltage and get better cooler, got it. Thanks a lot! You guys are really quick. cool.gif

Thanks for the advice. I gotta upgrade my memory, I know. xD I didn't think I would be getting a new processor quite as quickly as I did, so I just stuck with entry level things. I'm hopefully going to be getting 8GB soon, just to be safe. Any suggestions? : D

EDIT: One more thing, I hear it isn't safe to go over 1.45V for your CPU, is that valid?

What's your goal for this OC?
You'd gain a lot more performance in 3d games with a different video card.

Also..

Lol, overlooked that. xD

I'm going for 4.0 GHz, higher if I can. I'm aiming to get an ATI Radeon HD card or two within the next few months. I don't really play as many games as I thought I would to be honest, but when I do, definitely going to buy better cards.

Edit/Update: Seems like I have it running stable at 3.9 GHz (20X Multiplier and 1.45V. Stock Bus Speed.) Thanks guys. Going to try 4.0 or 4.1 when I get a better fan. wink.gif
