They're both great manufacturers...go with whichever you can afford. PhysX isn't implemented in many mainstream games and if cost is a concern, I would say take the 6970 route...if cost isn't an issue, go the 580 route. I'm not sure if the amd drivers are plagued with issues as many of their older brethren were.

Then again, you can probably grab a 480 for less than both of them now...in the end it's really up to you.

I guess my cards aren't 'ultra high-end' but I have one 6870 and one 470. I like them both but the 470 is louder but I had way less issues with it than with the 6870 that's why I use the 470 in my main rig.

I've used Nvidia GPU's for several years, since the Geforce 420 mx series. Never had an ATI card until recently. I switch over to ATI because of the low power consumption, price, and great performance their GPU offer. So far I really like how the 6950 perform, and I think, I'll stay with ATI for years to come. As long as their high end card doesn't require me to upgrade my PSU then they'll have my business

That is so true! and they do kick but when it comes to performance vs price, so in theory with a 500$GTX580nvida = ATI Crosfire 6xxxsytem for a better price! and scale better with that ati setup.. lol

Just pick whatever one looks decent based on price and performance reviews.

People have driver issues on both sides. 95% of the time when someone starts rambling on about how terrible drivers are (for either side), it's completely based on user error.

I quit buying nVidia cards after the 7900GT since they always fail after a year or two.
1 of the 4 nVidia I've had, didn't die while owning them.
4 of the 4 ATI I've had, didn't die while owning them.
