You've got a HP system, right?
So you're Mobo seems to be a M2N68-LA (Narra3), and it seemingly supports only up to 95w Processors.
It apparently works with a Phenom II x4 945 @3.0GHz, CPU-Z reports it as is it, but POST shows it as "AMD Model Unknown" or something, but works fine regardless.
Someone tried a 965, but it ran at 800MHz and "felt like it was running on a single core or something" lol.
Dunno about BIOS updates, Asus don't do the BIOS or anything for it, as although it's manufactured by them, it is a HP board, so it probably has their EEPROM.
What BIOS are you running curently? (If you download CPU-Z, it'll show you on the Mainboard
The 945 C3 (HDX945WFK4DGM) should run at a slightly lower voltage than the C2 (HDX945WFK4DGI), so maybe a little less heat, but as you'll likely not be OCing it, then get either the C2 or C3, just make sure it's the 95w (part no. listed in brackets).
Phenom II 925's (both revisions are 95w) run at 2.8, and should also run fine in it, costing a little less than their 945 counterpart.
I went from an 8450 to essentially the same chip (unlocked 545), the speed increase is very
noticeable. I love this chip, only thing I can knock is the OCing aspect of a C2 being slightly lower than a C3 in general, and the locked Multi from a non-BE.
Recoding is more than twice as fast (2.5GHz 8450/3.0GHz x4 545), takes 18 minutes for Nero to make a DVD for my little girls, used to take 45-60mins.Edited by EvoBeardy - 2/12/11 at 7:04pm
