Most Important GPU -- Nominations

Thread Starter
What do you think the most important graphics card of the last ten years has been? What graphics card made the biggest shift in the market, and left its mark on the industry the most?

I am NOT looking for what you think is the most powerful card, or the best deal, or what your favorite was. Which GPU legitimately made the biggest splash?

I'll start by nominating the Nvidia GeForce 8800GTX.

Once we have a dozen or so good nominations I'll make a poll to vote for the most important card of the last decade.

Leading nominees so far:
GeForce 6600GT
GeForce 8800GTX/Ultra
GeForce 8800GT
Radeon 9700/9800
Radeon 2900XT
Radeon HD4870

I'm going to say the Sapphire Radeon X1600 Pro because it was 1 of the 1st cards to have a HDMI port.

im gonna say the gtx 460 because of the folding advantage gain with it. it changed the ppd and is a perfect budget card for a gamer, or a high end card with a reasonable price for the average joe. It incorperated new technologies with cheapp and effective selling points. But the 8800 still ahs my vote

Even though I'm an nVidia boy, I've got to say the 5970 because it's held it's ground in benchmarks and in gaming for a long time. Just like the 8800GTX.

8800 Ultra was a beast of legends. The hoopla around this and it's raw power let the big green justify a hefty price for it...at the time.
