in a browser type 192.168.1.1 to access your router. Then go to the wireless tab and create a passphrase.

when doing this it brings up a box that says this

A username and password are being requested by http://192.168.1.1. The site says: "WRT54GSV4"

then asks for a User Name and Password.

try Admin as the username and leave the password blank
post #5 of 9
and if that doesnt work try "admin" for the user and either "admin" or "password" for the password box.

Try:
UN:admin
PW:admin

UN:admin
PW: password

UN:admin
PW: <leave blank>

if all else fails, hold the reset switch for 30 seconds, while holding reset switch unplug router, and hold for 30 seconds, and then plug it back in and hold reset for 30 seconds. you hold it down the whole time, thats a hard reset and will clear everything out. then start from scratch.

well.... Those are the defaults. What model is your router? You may need to reset it if you don't know the username and password, but, if the security isn't set you might as well.

Once you are signed in you need to go to the Administration tab and change the password.. you would still use admin as the username with the new password you setup.
