Best virus scanner?

Thread Starter
I recently disabled malwarebytes and avast! for about two weeks, thinking that it'll increase game performance (insert 100 slap to own head smilies here) and today antimalwaredoctor got installed onto my computer. After running malwarebytes in normal and safe mode, I got rid of about 25 threats. However, malwarebytes still shows "block access to ....." every 10 seconds.

the point
I read on a review that avast! detected 0 out of 20 threats in a scan, so I didnt bother to use it. What other antiviruses have a good detection rate? I don't care about full protection, just good at a scan.

Who in their right mind would turn off their A/V?
Sounds to me like you're in need of not A/V, but some hard hitting virus/trojan etc killers.

Microsoft Security Essentials has a fantastic detection rate.

It's also free.

I recommend you scan using Spybot S&D and also use MSE. I have been using avast and have had no problems whatsoever for the past 5 years.

I would recommend Microsoft Security Essentials.

But first, use this procedure to rid your rig of Antimalware Doctor...

First of all, I assume that if you're on this site youre NOT using IE, but I thought I should mention it anyway.

I just use the spybot immunizations, and run malewarebytes/spybot/ccleaner occasionally

when fixing other peoples computers, i use combofix, smitfraudfix, hijackthis, and the previous programs.

it's been 3 years since my last problem.... just be smart about what you download. The only time you need some heavy duty A/V is if youre into pron.

whatever you do, STAY AWAY FROM NORTON. I hear kaspersky, avast, and AVG aren't bad but I've never used them myself.

Okay... MSE it is. Will that get rid of most the 10% of things not detected by malwarebytes?

In my opinion, Norton Internet Security is the best available antivirus software in the market. I have been using this software for more than 2 years and still I haven't faced any problems. Some small issues were raised but got it easily resolved with the help of good customer care. The only negative point of this software is that slows down the overall performance of PC.
