Will six sticks make it harder to OC?

Thread Starter
I'm running 3x2GB right now and thinking about upgrading to 3x4GB or 6x2GB. 6x2GB will give me more options but I remember reading somewhere that more sticks may make it harder to overclock the CPU.

My CPU is i7 920 and motherboard is Asus Rampage III Formula. The CPU is currently overclocked to 3.5Ghz with 1.184v. It could achieve 3.9-4Ghz with 1.22v but don't really want to push it since Corsair H50 is not that powerful.

My question here is, will 6 sticks of memories make it harder or require more voltage to overclock the CPU? I'm pretty sure I read something like that before but can't remember if that was on the LGA775 platform or the LGA1366...(or both, lol)

It's just generally easier to OC with less sticks. If you board supports triple channel then get the 3x4GB sticks.

If you aren't overclocking your ram a bunch it shouldn't hurt it too much. as long as your chip has a good IMC.

Yes, less sticks are easier to OC and you will generally get more performance out of them. I would go with the 3x4Gb.
