AM3+ Support

Thread Starter
What is this, I don't even?

I'm guessing they jumped the gun and printed that on the design/board while it was still in speculation that BD would simply be an AM3 drop-in instead of needing AM3+..?

I thought it was pretty common knowledge that bulldozer would be AM3+

Maybe the designer was busy having wet dreams about bulldozer and added a plus by accident?

AM3+ on a 890FX chipset!?
Okay, that is definitely worth noticing. This doesn't even look that bad of a board, having 8+2 and all, and the pricing at $140 seems excellent.

This actually may very well be my next board if I'm not too impressed with a Gigabyte 990X offering

Have no idea if it's allowed, but I just brought this thread onto the news section. Now the entirety of OCN will know that Bulldozer is truly coming soon!

On the other hand, this is probably why 890FXA-GD65 seems completely different from previous MSI boards... what with the 8+2 power phase and all

Lol, I emailed MSI about this recently.

Quote:
"Hi,

I had a few questions about the new MSI motherboard listed here: http://www.msi.com/product/mb/890FXA-GD65.html

First of all, when will it be available to buy in Australia, and how much will it retail for?

And secondly, I've noticed that on the board itself, it says that it has "AM3+ CPU Support".

Combined with the lack of reviews and news regarding this motherboard, is it actually the first Bulldozer CPU AM3+ compatible motherboard released?

Hope you can answer my queries.

Thanks in advance."
The response I got was very round about and indirect.

Quote:
"Thanks for your enquiry. Unfortunately 890FXA-GD65 isn’t available in Australia yet.

You may look into 890FXA-GD70 or 890GXM-G65; they both are available in Australia and 890FXA-GD70 has a lot of awards.

Please refer to our website for CPU support list for the compatible CPU.

Thanks."
I then responded with this:

Quote:
"Hi,

Thanks for replying, but you didn't really answer any of my questions.

1. I know that the 890FXA-GD65 is not yet available in Australia, I was asking when will they be available in Australia, and how much will they retail for?

2. You ignored my follow up question about the AM3+ CPU Support for the 890FXA-GD65. Because the AMD Bulldozer CPUs are not yet released, of course it wouldn't show up in your website compatibility list. What I'm asking is are the 890FXA-GD65 was designed to be compatible with AM3+ CPUs when they come out?

Thank you."
He didn't get back to me. Mind you, this was a week ago. Very suspicious.

I could take a couple of screenshots if anyone needs proof.

lol, u will be update missing 1 pin on this?:-D
No, its mistake. Because AM3+ CPUs are not pin compactible with AM3 boards (AM3+ CPU have +1 pin)

From personal experience, when you call a customer support line, you aren't getting the good customer support that you should be getting. I fix computers for a living and every so often I have to call a vendor customer support and ask them a complex question and they all give generic answers. One time I actually went off on a dude because after I told him what I did for a living and that he doesn't need to speak to me like I'm 5 yrs old, he kept on doing it.

I wouldn't expect anything less from the like of customer support when it comes to a not so complex to us, but complex to them type of answer. Instead of going out and getting educated on their own product, they run from the question. Sigh.....sorry for the rant. I'ts 6:22 am on a Sunday morning. My 7th day working in a row and I'm annoyed lol.
