Why am I so bad at PC FPS?

I've never really played any PC FPS games seriously until recently with BFBC2. I got my G13 and G700 helping more than a regular keyboard and mouse would for someone like me. But I just still feel so uncoordinated. I never remember where certain things are mapped and hit the wrong buttons constantly..

I used to play BFBC1 and BFBC2 heavily for the 360 and PS3. I was sporting over a 3.0 KDR playing 45% assault 55% recon. Granted my SPM was low because I played like a wuss but I did have over 5k kills in the short amount of time I did play BC2 on PS3 before I sold it. And I had over 15k kills in BC1.

It goes against everything that I was ever told about PC gaming.. that mouse and keyboards are more accurate/natural feeling. However I felt way more comfortable on a controller. I'm like twitching, overcompensating, and moving in the wrong directions. I'm missing people pretty close to me, either spraying an entire clip of the M16, or completely missing what I would expect to be headshots, or at least a body shot with the M95 many times in a row on the same target.

It couldn't have been the aim assist consoles have. Unless maybe I just got used to playing on consoles too long. I really need to get the hang of this before BF3 comes out. It just feels like having to walk again or something I dunno..

It didn't take me that long to learn to master playing on a controller that I do know for sure. frown.giffrown.giffrown.gif

1) Your opponents are generally a bit more skilled (more accurate based on control scheme, reactions will be faster, you'll die more quickly).
2) Once you get a bit more confidence in your aim then you will actually calm down and aim instead of 100% spray

turn your mouse speed down more. if you are overcompensating that will help you some. it will take you a little tweaking to get it set just right in your comfort sweet spot.

It is easier to aim on PC. It is also the same for your competition. That may be why it seems harder. You need to get better.

I agree with this. All my life I've been a PC FPS gamer but in the last few months I've had some time off and spent many hours playing. This is time that I normally don't put much into the console FPS. I've always hated how I perform on the console. But now I've acclimated and all is good.

Will still continue to game on my PC but its nicer now when I play on console. So practice, practice, and practice.

I noticed my KDR would be horrible in most FPS games because my cursor speed was to fast, I have to turn my deathadder down to 800 DPI when I play FPS games otherwise i'll fail with my crosshair moving to much since my mouse is more sensitive on higher DPI settings like any other mouse would be. lol

Yeah I tried that. I spent a long time messing with the .ini settings and my mouse's DPI settings to find a good balance. I have it set to 0 sensitivity in game, and 1000 DPI. I tried lower, but any lower I takes wayyy to much mouse movement to do a 180 - like over 8 inches.

Either it feels perfect for aiming, or perfect for movement/looking.. I can't find anything that seems to work for both.

Both the problem and the good thing about PCs compared to consoles in regards to FPS games is the amount of control you have. Using a mouse/keyboard is much more exact than a controller. I know I am horrible at console FPS games because I cant get used to the lack of control. As teajayyy said, the only way to get better is practice. Keep playing and you will get better, just takes time. Good luck!

Just need to practice, once you get the controls down your aim will improve.
