As someone who still has one of those boards around with a Q6600 in it I can say that it indeed works, but overclocking was a real pain with that board. Serious vdroop issues. If you google around (you'll probably end up back on OCN!) we were doing things like pencil mods just drying to get the voltage more stable but it wasn't helping much.

For the record, I remember maxing out at around 2.8 or 2.9 on that board. Bought an X38-DS4 and the same CPU started hanging out at 3.6-3.8! I will say though, that running RAM in all of the slots sometimes decreases your OC potential.. That 3.8 backed off to a 3.4 - 3.6 with all slots filled.

I was able to get a friend of mine's Q6600 at 3.3GHz using 413 x 8 @ 1.475v (1.4v VTT). 3.4GHz was going to take upwards of 1.55v and it was just too hot. Easiest to keep ram at or below rated specs (speed and timings). Your board should at least be able to do 333 FSB for a 3GHz overlock if you're chip will allow it.

You should be able to clock at 3.0ghz on stock voltage, I wouldn't use the auto voltage settings, mine overshot on the required volts.

my clock setting is 9x333mhz on the cpu. Very healthy overclock and very stable.

Can't you run the memory modules unlinked? If you run it unlinked then it will stay at the same speed.

Also, if you would run the memory linked at a 1:1 ratio then 333 FSB (3.0Ghz) would give you 667mhz memory. Those modules can run that speed easily.

I get to 3.2 on stock voltage, is there a opition in that board to change the ratio of CPU:RAM you want Highest:lowest to get the best out the cpu for that ram.

If you want new ram the spec says that U can go up to 1200MHz
