Q6600 oc - Page 3

he will get problems because of his board (heat/fsbwall), his ram (fsbwall/stability.. and he is using 4 modules which is going to decrease maxFSB) if he intends to run it on 3.6ghz what he should to make his cpu fits to the gpu.

for a 1ghz oc you can still use aircooling like mugen2 for 40$.. i´d recommend an second hand asus/gigabyte p45 board from ebay or a new cheap one and also i´d say you get some 2x2GB 1066 ddrII ram..

can i at least hit 3.0 with what i have right now?

Overclock the FSB on its own first, then the CPU, then sort the RAM out. Manual the voltages, keep them at normal until you need to up for a post or pass a stress-test. One at a time. You'll find the highest sweet-spot for each, doesnt take too long. Remember after 400FSB on x6 the other stuff will start to OC so keep a 0.05v boost on those per incriment, plus an extra 0.05v as standard for the vdroop. What is the VID?

I think you should jump in and try out for yourself

Hey Man,

I ran a Q6600 on a P5N-D before and got to 3.8Ghz with some high volts (1.5 odd)

My chip was also a bad chip

But your should do 3.6Ghz

Also when I first OC'ed in my life I ran a Q6600 at 1.6 volts for a tweek at 3.6Ghz before I was told I was going to break chip and dhip is still going strong today (sitting at 3.4Ghz with P5N-Q)

Sorry to revive an old thread but I figured it was best instead of creating a new one.
I managed to get a free set of OCZ2N800SR4GK from my cousin.
ddr2-800mhz, 2x2gb kit.

So this should hopefully help me out with my oc now?

680i really doesn't like quads, but should be OK for 3.0.

Unlink your RAM but try to keep it's speed close to 1:1 with the FSB. I'd do like someone else suggested and DECREASE your CPU multiple, then check increase your board FSB in increments to check for FSB holes, which the 680i is prone to. Where you have a hole, the board will refuse to boot. Then it will reach the next strap, say 400, and it will boot again. Once you have checked for FSB holes, you'll know where you stand with the board. Then you can test for stability, still with the CPU mutliple lowered, using Prime Blend. Increase NB voltage as needed and repeat testing if it fails.

If all you want is 3.0, you'll just test 333FSB. You didn't need DDR2 800 to run 333FSB BTW. Then bring the CPU multiple back up to stock and test 3.0 for stabiility with OCCT.

A couple notes:

1: Even if they seem stable, I've found 680i to be randomly crashy with quads
2: NForce NB chips run HOT HOT HOT. Alot come with fans on the NB cooler but yours doesn't, so I'd get some air directed at it so it doesn't die/degrade
3: The FSB holes are usually between straps, like 350FSB etc (between 333 and 400)

Much appreciate the reply man, going to see how to unlink the ram, as I have a feeling that may be a problem.
I've tried 333fsb, with as low as 6x multiple but no luck, going to try some more fiddling around, and see if I can find the unlink option as well.

I find the overclocking in this BIOS to be very very slim, not many options at all.

There isn't really many options, to be quite honest I think its just my horrible board.
I guess ill just keep my eye out locally for a used p45 board.
as I cant post in the wanted thread still haha
