i7 950 + Sabertooth X58 = 4GHz please help

Hi, this is my first time ever building a desktop rig.
Before I've always used laptops and prebuilt crap. As a result, I don't have much experience in overclocking.

Right now, I've only hit 3.6 GHz stable, with these BIOS settings. I cannot seem to get to 4GHz, even with 1.35V on both VCORE and QPI/DRAM, so I really need help to tweak other settings.

Excuse shaky camera for this one..

What do I need to set to get to 4GHz as stable and with as low vcore as possible?

As I said, I've already tried 1.35 VCORE and QPI/DRAM with 23x whatever blck to 4GHz, but no luck.
Also tried CPU Differential Amplitute 800mv and Clock Skew 300ps, but doesnt help
I didn't raise my RAM speed above 1600, kept RAM voltage at stock 1.65. Also, didnt mess with timings.

At 3.6 GHz, my P95 load temps are 63-65C, so you reckon I can push higher? (Hyper 212+ Push/Pull with not so good fans)

Thanks, Im really desperate for 4GHz, but when I try, I always see waves of BSODs

Those exact settings worked for me. I didn't bother lowering vcore any more as I started with that voltage and didn't feel like sitting around for a few more hours stress testing.

Temps were 65C max load after I believe something like 3 hours of OCCT: Linpack.

You can attempt to lower Vcore some more.

OK, so I tried your settings,
Got Driver IRQL Not Less or Equal - BSOD Code D1
- Increased QPI by 1 increment
Then got Clock Interrupt from Secondary processor not recieved - BSOD Code 101
- Increased VCORE by 1 increment
Then got system service exception - BSOD Code 3B

After all that, all my BSOD codes are about increasing vcore.
My i7 can't possibly require like 1.5V to get to 4 Ghz could it? frown.gif

Really stuck

There is a newer bios version out, 0802 that has some stability fixes but i'm not entirely what they are for.

Update your BIOS if you haven't already done so. I won't say never, but I highly doubt you'll need above 1.375v to hit 4 GHz. What are your temps like?

My i7-950 is quite bad for overclocking, to be stable it needs 1.35 V for 4 GHz and 1.40 V 4.2 GHz.

Disable all CPU settings like prefetcher and all that other crap.
Raise Vcore a little bit, and most importantly, LOWER PLL to 1.74, if you can't try 1.80. It will help stability a LOT.
