EVGA FTW3 SataIII not working with SSD

post #1 of 37

This is my first build so I could be missing something and I am sorry if this is just a stupid problem.

I have a Crucial C300 SSD and when I hook it up to my sataIII port (port 1 or 2) my OS will not load at all. I am using a SATAIII cable that I purchased seperatly from the board. It acts like it is going to load up and then freezes or crashes on the "loading windows" screen. I check the drivers and I am all up to date on them. I am @ a loss, It is like it doesn't even recognize the OS on the SSD. Even when I try to load a restore point it tells me I need to select an OS to do so but my OS will not show up.

The minute I pull it off the SATAIII port and put it back into SATAII it fires up without question. Any Idea what could be causing this? Thanks ahead of time and sorry again if this is a dumb question.

Is the 3rd party sata3 controller turn on in the bios? And also is ur windows installed with AHCI in the first place?

If those are rule out then RMA the board....... hearing more and more problems with evga boards nowdays ; ;

So last night I flashed my bios to newest version. Did a complete new win7 install. Went to EVGA's website and got the newest drivers / firmware. I am going to try hooking it back up to SATAIII in a few. If it doesn't work I am going to have a small nervous break down and be forced to yell @ a puppy.

Try to increase ICH Voltage a little bit, drives can drop out when its too low sometimes.

So I tried both of my ports just now. 1 port tells me the disk is not bootable. the other port goes to the windows load screen then my HD light lights up and stays lit and it freezes. Guessing both of my ports are bad?

Even if I try to do a fresh install on windows using the sataIII ports the drive isn't recognized at all. I do have sataIII enabled on my mobo.

When the computer first loads the marvell controller recognizes my disk and shows Crucial C300 etc. Anything after that though the system acts as if I have no Hard drives installed to put anything on. On an upside being that this is my first build I am damn proud of myself and what I have learned! lol on a downside I am @ a complete loss on this one. I searched what I could and sent out a ticket to EVGA again. I just dont know...

Evga will troubleshoot it for you, get them on the phone right now if you don't want to wait for a ticket. The big deal with them is service/warranty.

Try the ICH Voltage setting in the BIOS. Raise it to about 1.15 and see if that helps.

Also try to bump the IOH voltage a few notches and see if things change.
