New Gaming Rig Help

Thread Starter
Hi All,

I have been researching the web for a few weeks now and am still wondering which system build to go with.

Intel:

Intel Core i5 760
Asus Maximus III Formula mobo

or

Intel Core i5-2500K
Asus P8P67 mobo

AMD:

AMD Phenom II X4 970 Black Edition
Asus Crosshair III Formula AMD 790FX mobo

or

AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition
Asus Crosshair III Formula AMD 790FX mobo

Any of the above will go with what I have decided upon:

Coolermaster CM690-II Lite Dominator Case & GX 750W Power Supply
XFX ATI Radeon HD 6870
Probably going for something like Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-16000C9 2000MHz Triple Channel Kit

Now, looking at benchmarks and I am still undecided about what config to go for, I will be using the system for mostly playing games like Black Ops, BC2, BC3 (when it comes out) Crysis 2 etc.

A lot of people are saying the i5 is a better processor for gaming, but something is telling me to go for the AMD setup. Now I know SandyBridge has a small issue at the moment but that's only affective around 5% of mobo's. I will be oc'ing whatever system I get I should add

Please help me out people as this is driving me nuts

At this stage in the game, I'd forget about the AMD combo if your wanting to build right now. Intel has the floor wiped, waxed and shined with AMD.

Other than that, some Intel guys will have to give you some input here.

I wouldn't bother upgrading at this moment, bulldozer is only a couple of months away, plus it will give you more time to save.

Jay is really right, but if you HAVE TO build now, yea, forget AMD.

I cant wait for BD. Even if it sucks I'm not spending any money right now until I know whats up.

I'd stay away from sandybridge for the time being, at least until its issue of SATA ports degrading. Wait till intel have "fixed" the issue (said to be April sometime)

Like stated above, if you can wait, then do so as prices should come down some on the intel processors once the new ones come out. But if I had to pick now I would definately go with the i5 or you could go with a LGA1156 core i7.

Good decision. Stick with your current build until BD is out. You will have a better choice then.
