Since my headsets on the blink I'm looking for a good sound card that will be better than onboard audio and reliable. I'm also looking for a good headset. As far as price goes I really dont mind but cheaper would be preferable.

I just used my ath a7oo headphones with onboard sound and it wasnt impressive. recently i bought my creative sb x-fi hd sound card and wow it is very a impressive sound. i only needed the line-in and speaker input though. i wish that i would have gotten this sound card and headphones.
$100 Creative 70SB088000004 7.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Express 1x Interface PCI Express Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium

hd280 are perfect around the ear circumaural fit. the audio technica ath a700 sit on the ear supra-aural which i do not like about headphones.
$120 Sennheiser - Professional DJ styled - Monitoring Applications Headphones (HD 280 SILVER)

i would not really want to spend spend over £60-£70 on a headset. This is the one I previously had http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...58&subcat=1719

so obviously im looking for something better than that. Also I really dont like wireless headsets so thats a no no.

Sound Card: ASUS Xonar DG ~30 Pound

Headphones: JVC HA-RX700 ~40 Pound

= Improvement over onboard that will destroy set ups which can cost almost double the price. 80% of the people who look at those pages, buy each item. Both are nearly sold out. So trust me.

If it's just for headphones, I'd recommend this Sound Card:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829132010

But if you have a 5.1 or 7.1 channel audio setup, go with one of these:
