People who whine about the host in online games

Yeah, I still play MW2. It's fun, and I like the weapon selection.

Anyway, for the uninitiated, MW2 uses a matchmaking system to find players and then selects the best possible host for the game. Most of the time you get a playable connection with pings <100ms, but sometimes you get the short end of the stick and can have connections over 150ms (even up to 300+.) I typically leave when the host is not agreeable to me.

Right. So here I was playing a S&D match, and I hit search. A couple joined then an entire party joined (5 people.) As soon as the first round was over (we won) they started asking if I could leave because I was a bad host. I didn't respond at first because I was too busy rushing the bomb. After continuous nagging I finally said "why should I leave when I get crap connections all the time? You leave if you want, but your game connection does not dictate what I do." They returned with "90% of the players in this game have bad connections." I replied, "then ask the 90% of the players with bad connections to leave."

We won, 4-0. Also, they spent so much time typing it wasn't really a surprise. The rest of the players had decent connections.

I mean seriously, it's not like they were forced to play in a game hosted by me. The fact that they were in a party generally makes me grumble extra, because that just means they want the favor to be on their side (naturally.) So my question is why do people think it's okay to ask another player to leave because they get a poor connection?

If they have issues, they should leave.

There's a couple of exceptions though.

My friend uses this USB dongle to gain access to the internet. One day I urged him to try out quake live. Surprise surprise his ping was near 500 and he jumped from place to place. It was practically impossible to hit him without the rocket launcher. In that case, it would've been acceptable to ask the player to leave.

But most of the time it's not acceptable

Yes, they ARE forced to play in a game hosted by you. They don't get a choice as to who hosts the game, and if THEY leave, then it counts as a loss on their record. While I can't be bothered to play a horribly laggy game, they may care about that sort of thing.

In MW2, the host also gets numerous advantages over other players. His movement is smoother, and it counts enemy positions on his screen as "more likely" than however they appear on someone else's screen. (It can't be sending the exact information every frame)

that game is a joke. the only time you CAN do good is if YOU are the host. which to me, defeats the purpose of multiplayer, you might as well just make MW2 reaper bots.

This.

It's the same problem people had with playing SWAT or anything serious in Halo 2.
