9800GTX+ bus width

Thread Starter
I have a problem with my graphics card which is this; according to both CPU-ID and GPU-Z my 9800GTX+ is only running at a bus width of x2 whereas it's maximum is x16. I have had this problem for several months now, and I have tried to solve it without success. Is this problem even solveable, or am I stuck with it until I get a new GPU?

Have you tried reinstalling the drivers and reseating the card?

Your mixing your terminology up. Bus width pertains to your memory interface.

The pipe that the gpu uses to talk the video ram. For the 9800 + was 256bit.
Your confusing PCI-e lane. That is the pipe that gpu use to talk to the cpu.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/product...x_plus_us.html

its important you know the differences. You could be using an old ver of gpuz. Or you have your vid card in the wrong slot.
Post a pic. of the gpuz results.

Many times. Those were the first things I tried. I have even tried several different versions of the drivers to no effect. And just to be pedantic, yes I have checked that there are no stickers covering the PCI-E port .

OK here are the specs?
http://www.asrock.com/download/e-cat...ins-FullHD.pdf

Does it show the 9800+ in gpuz, and is in it installed in the top green slot?
Are the power connectors hooked up?
Did you disable the intel GMA in bios?
What ver of GPUz? What Nvidia driver ver?
Post a pic of the gpuz plz.

I think that is uploaded. I am using GPU-Z version 0.5.1 which I think is the most recent version.

Yes it is in the green slot. I have plugged in the 6-pin PCI-E power connector which I believe is the only power connector it needs. My graphics driver is the most modern version: 266.58

The problem I have is that when I hover the mouse over the "bus interface" box it says this:

"....The graphics card reports that is supports PCI-Express x16 v2.0. It is currently running at PCI-Express x2 v2.0." (bold added for emphasis)

This is where I am confused.

Could you be a bit more specific? There is nothing obvious in the bios.
