Home server/network help.....

Thread Starter
HI everyone

I'm doing some digging for a friend that is a pro net admin & web site builder.
He's building a small home server system of 3 matching systems on the low buck and only works with commercial equipment so he sought me out on some hardware recommendations.

This what softs he'll be using at home as he already has it and is on a budget. XP 32 bit, MS Server OS 2003.

He does web site coding on the side at home.

Current considerations with regards to cost...

AMD 770, 790 or 870 chip set (DDR3) MBs with the Regor dual core as current option.

I have as of yet not found any issues with that chip set, so I seek your help to find if there are any known issues with that chip set and the OSs (XP 32, Server 2003) listed.

What OS does he want to use for the server? Server 2003 or WHS(keep in mind, current WHS is a reformatted 2003)? Also, just wondering why he wants DDR3 in something where ram speed isn't going to be an issue.

Probably because DDR3 is cheaper than DDR or DDR2...

I run a 770 chipset with a Regor dual core, and it runs rock steady at stock, and isn't a bad little chipset.

Depends on what you're buying, and lots of people in this forum seem to have extra lying around, including me
