Ipod Touch 3g Won't Turn On?

Thread Starter
My friend just gave me his old Ipod Touch 3g since he can't get it to turn on. It just stopped working out of the blue.

Anybody know the possible solution to fix it?

I've already tried setting it into DFU mode, holding the home button while connecting it to my PC, and resetting it.

Would really appreciate it biggrin.gif

Other than holding the home and power button to reset, I have nothing lol

Any warranty left on the iPod?
If so, definitely take it back to the apple store so they can give you a new one haha

But even if theres no warranty and you got it for free, It might be worth paying the 50-100 to get it fixed by apple.

Good luck!

I would try and seeing if it will power up with a charger first. If it doesn't power up at all then there could be a serious issue. I've jailbroken and repaired quite of few iPhones and I haven't come across one that just won't power up.

- Has this device been dropped repeatedly?
- Does your PC recognize it when plugged in?
- Can you feel it getting warm while being plugged in?

When you first plug it into your pc it should recognize it and it should make a sound signifying it. It will also make a sound when you've put it into DFU mode. I haven't come across one that I haven't been able to put into DFU mode barring any physical damage to the unit.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I've tried powering it up with a charger, nothing happened. The device hasn't been dropped. The PC doesn't recognize it at all, and I don't think it gets warmer.

There's no warranty left. Anybody know if I just have to replace a certain part that I could DIY?

You could replace the battery but I would see if there is any voltage coming into the device by opening it up and using a multi meter on prongs the battery is wired into. This would tell you weather or not power is getting to the device. iDevice power cables rarely go bad. It's not all that difficult to replace the battery. It's just a bit time consuming is all.

It does depend on how much money you want to sink into repairing this device too. I've rarely ever come across a device that just wouldn't power on. If you haven't opened an iPod touch before there are plenty of walk through tutorials online.
