Intel Classified

Thread Starter
I got this locally for a song, the owner said it is a Xeon W3350 3.06GHz equivalent. I read somewhere that it is the property of Intel. Hmmm... if I turn it in to Intel do you think they will give me a retail version for it, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to ask.

It's an engineering sample chip. Their license states that all ES chips are their property, so you probably wouldn't be able to get a trade. They might give you permission to keep it, though. Give it a shot and let us know how it goes!

Don't ask them anything.

They may say that because it is their property that you have to return it. I'm also pretty sure when receiving an ES chip Intel makes you sign some kind of agreement stating that you will not sell, or distribute an ES chip. And by you asking Intel if you can keep it may tell them that someone violated ToS.

Because a retail chip carries a warranty hence greater resell value.

No. ES chips are MUCH more valuable. Much more. You'd be stupid to let that out of your hands.
