Phenom II 4.2 Ghz OC, think I can take it further?

Thread Starter
I just got a C3 Phenom II x2 555 and was able to unlock a core (4th is unstable).

Right now it's at 4.2 Ghz (21 x 200 Mhz) @ 1.438 V. It hits 48 C from Intel Burn Test/linpack.
I also have the HT and NB at 2.6 Ghz with 1.25 V each.

Should I also try anything with the bus speed, and what should I do with the HT and NB? I'm going to be testing some genetic algorithms that I'm making for many, many hours, so even a negligible difference can add up >_>
And, from what I've seen, 1.45 V is generally as high as people recommend going for actual usage?

Lower your HT back as close to 2000 MHz as you can. It's generally accepted that having it much above 2200 MHz actually hurts performance. Increase your CPU-NB clock, if you can, since that actually really helps performance.

As long as your CPU socket temp is below 62 degrees C, you can safely up the vcore to 1.55v. That's the absolute max on air, and some people aren't comfortable running it 24/7. Certainly 1.5v is safe, and a lot of people run at 1.55v without issue. Once your CPU temp hits 55 C, it's typically harder to achieve stable clocks.

Thanks guys, i'll do that with the HT, and i'll try to bring it up higher when my fans arrive (i bought 3 yate loon high speed 80 cfm 120mm fans, and i'm going to put two on my hyper 212+ and then another in the front for intake on my antec 300)

Boo, I got a rounding error in Prime95 after a few hours at 10-8-8-18-1T (stock CPU), but I loosened it up a bit to 10-9-9-20-1T and it has lasted 4 hours and counting, and several scans of memtest+ and the windows memory tester.

Hmm, I'd try 9-9-9-24-1t instead. Lowering CL usually results in better results than lowering the other ones.

And definitely, keep pushing that chip. Pump 1.48 volts through it and see how high you can take her!

I can only bring down the CL to 9 if I put the ram at 1333 mhz :-/ not even at 1.6, 1.65, or 1.7 V and with everything else looser. It doesn't even post.

Try overclocking your ram using the reference clock/fsb. Set the ram to 1333 with the CL at 9 and see how high you can get it.

I can get it to 8-8-8-18 at 1333; anything lower makes it not POST.

2.6 ghz NB and 2.2 ghz HT causes instability, which direction should i take things/voltages in order to get stability? >_> stock is 1.2 V on both, right?
Also, I just got some Yate Loon's, and now my idle temps are 30 C and load from intel burn test is 42 C cpu and 37 C on cores, and at just 50% fan speeds (< 1400 rpms) ^_^
