Thermal throttling on AMD's kicks in around like 80c, He can't possibly be running it that hot. Even intel can't run that hot before throttling.
If I was his friend I would serious smack him. 16GFlops? that is terrible. I get 45Gflops running that same problem.
I am only running 1.42volts for 4ghz. What does he use for cooling.
You should really link him this.
http://products.amd.com/en-na/Deskto...il.aspx?id=560
max temp is 70c. But everybody knows that you shouldn't run higher then 60c.

Picture attached for proof.

My dual is doing about 24-25 gflops at 3.8GHz.. It takes 1.448V for stability.

Do I have a weak chip? Or a weak board? Or wuttT??

Has my chip degraded? :[

Again AMD sensors are NOT in the same areas as INTELS. They are night and day, AMDs readings have nothing to do with INTELS readings.
I'm talking about cpu temp not core temp. where the sensor is on the chip has nothing to do with the socket temp. Infact, I don't think I even made a comparison to intel chips throughout any of my posts in this thread, everyone just assumed I made the connection because I have an intel rig in my sig. On that note if amd chips do start degrading at 62c they would seriously have to be using the cheapest materials possible. I am willing to admit I am wrong(all my anecdotal evidence says otherwise though), but damn AMD chips are seriously made cheaply if you all are right.

There is no thermal throttling on AMD chips, only motherboard thermal shutoff options which are normally preset to 90c.

You're on a quad core. The GFlops comparison isn't fair. I get 46.5 on my Athlon at 3.7GHz, for reference (when its a quad and overclocked). Granted I've taken months and months to dial mine in perfectly.

  • That's typical for a dual core, no worries .
  • 1.45v is still WELL within safe limits. You're good to 1.55-1.60v (depending on cooling).
  • No, you don't have a weak anything .
  • No, your chip hasn't degraded, unless you let it run insanely hot, for insane amounts of time.

EDIT:
Well, your PSU is mediocre....but its not a problem to the overclock .

I've just read that people have been able to get to 4GHz with 1.4V or some crazy low voltage and I'm not able to get to that high without going near 1.5 or higher..

I am just saying even when my chip is cut in half I still get a hell of a lot more Gflops then his dual core, and almost more then the tripple core.

I run the same problem size he did, which made my Gflops go down, I normally get like 48-49.

I was just trying to make a point that his 16Gflops is horrible for him. he should get much higher then that at stock speeds, let alone overclocked.

Why are you so surprised? I can add +875mv to mine. That's 2.25v that I can punish my CPU with. DFI......

Doesn't mean I'd ever be stupid enough to use +875mv though.

4.0GHz with 1.40v is a golden chip, and likely not stable there anyway. There's nothing at all wrong with your setup, and there's nothing wrong with 1.50-1.55v for 4.0GHz, assuming temps stay below 55*C.
