2 DIMMs doesn't always mean dual channel. Some CPUs/IMCs/chipsets just simply lack the dual channel support. Perhaps in this case TDP could've increased.

it needs a Thermalright HR-05! that would be the perfect cooler for it.

I was under the impression that the jump from single channel to dual channel wasn't actually that great (only about a 4% performance increase). Maybe this is wrong now since the last I read on it was around 5 years ago and maybe now because of advances in technology it scales well. But then remember the jump from dual channel to triple channel and it not really giving that much of a boost (which is why Intel dropped triple channel support for the SB platform, or so I'm told).
