HELP My PC won't do anything

Thread Starter
I tried to start up my PC and when I do nothing happens (as in not even the power light). This brings me to believe that the power supply is faulty but i'm not sure. I can sometimes jar the case and it will power up. While it is on I checked for loose cables and nothing. I turned it off and back on and then again nothing. What is wrong?

Thats a grounding issue then if it turns on when you move the case.
So you push the power button, but nothing happens? No lights, no fan startup no nothing.

This can be either a) busted power supply
or b) busted motherboard

First lets find out which one it is. Instead of shaking and tipping your case, I suggest opening it up, unplugging all of the power supply cables from all components and properly dusting the computer clean.

Question: Is the "Logisys 575 Watt" in your sig the power supply?
I believe you can test the power supply. This is done by taking it out of your computer, plugging it into the wall, and on the 24 pin connector shorting the GREEN pin with any BLACK pin using a paperclip. This simulates the action of "pushing the power button" on your computer. If the fan on the PSU doesn't spin up, then its a dud.

EDIT::::

The Logisys 575 Watt power supply seems like a poorly ventilated, run of the mill, 30 dollar power supply. I would have never bought such a PSU. Im really leaning towards that being the issue.

Yes that is the power supply and yes, no lights or fans. When the case is laying flat I can sometimes get the motherboard to start up as in the MSI P55-GD80 logo, then it says that the CMOS is not setup even though I have set it up several times. When it is running sideways i try to stand it up and it will either shut off or flicker.

If it is a grounding issue, how can I fix it?

Get a PSU that won't be an issue. If you've already checked all the cables, that means the grounding issue is inside the PSU. Which wouldn't surprise me on that thing.

Get a good unit, and you won't have this problem. For super budget builds, I usually see the Antec Neo ECO 400w being recommended. Would be absolutely PERFECT for your rig.

So if the PSU has a grounding issue, it could work sometimes and sometimes not? When it does work, I can tap the PSU and it keeps running.

PS: My GFX card (EVGA GTX 460 SC with even more OC) requires at least 450 Watts

PS: Your Logisys 575w is only a mediocre at best 200w.

Your ENTIRE MACHINE will only pull around 300w or so at full system load. The Antec Neo ECO will handle that EASILY .

No way to tell for sure unless you take the PSU out and test it, but I'm assuming its a bad power supply. Solution = get a new one.

Suggestion: any of these:
