With the upcoming release of crysis 2, upgrade is needed

Ok so my current system specs are,
CPU: quad core q6600 @ 2.4 GHZ
Ram: 4gb 1066 crucial ballistix
GPU: 2x SLI 8800 gts 512
MB: Nvidia 780i

I'm wondering what upgrades I should get to optimize for the upcoming release of crysis.

Budget is a thing, so nothing crazy, Intelligent ideas welcome

it really depends. do you want to keep your current motherboard? if you dont i suggest upgrading to an i7 2600k cpu with a p67 motherboard and some 1600mhz ram with a gtx560

Kepler GPUs on Intel X68 platform will be an awesome upgrade towards the end of the year.

For now an i5 2500k/GTX560 rig should be good for budget gaming. Crysis 2 is supposed to be more optimized than the first so it should run well enough on less hardware.

what kind of budget do you have?

for gpu you could go with a 470 or a 560 both are around $250 new

or upgrade your cpu to a Q9550. overclock it to around 4 ghz

either of those would be about a 200-250 and would be a considerable upgrade for ya.

EDIT: 1155 is gonna be tough to get right now with all the mobo recalls but if you have around 500 that would be a good option but you will still want to think about dumping those 8800's and getting a single DX 11 card.

I think more optimized means that it will run better on the same hardware and look better on the same hardware, but I think that they will try to push the envelope and take advantage of the best current hardware and top end hardware into the future.

well they're gunna release a dual GPU card which should be out of your reach anyway (no offense, i'm being reasonable) so no.
you could wait until new GPU are released and wait some more for midrange GPU of the new lineup to be released, or u can get a 560/6950 and be happy. although i suspect it won't max crysis at 1080p or higher. i could be wrong. the game is not even released yet.
i personally hope that i can max crysis with my setup @ 1440x900

i say besides the lack of DX 11.. you might actually be able to max it...

but who knows....

i don't think crysis will be such a demanding game

i mean look at farcry 1 vs farcry 2...
