It says it in his post as well. Anything to spam the same stuff in every thread though, right? It's either "That MSI board will die! VOLTS AHHHHH" or "your memory is generic!".

All the specs can be found here:

http://products.amd.com/en-us/DesktopCPUResult.aspx

The 970 max on data sheet is 1.4v, 1.6v may be pushing things a little on air.

For my 940 the max is 1.5v. I've bee running it at 1.55v / 3.7ghz. The max temp is 62c my 940 rarely goes over 50c when stressing with Prime95.

I had a 965BE C2 140w that did just 4Ghz with 1.55v in bios, but cpuz load it said 1.6v.

That chip ran cool off of a TRUE Black.

I ran it that way for 6 months atleast no problem. Those AMD chips are tanks

Worse... maybe not in quality, but definitely on cooling - 125W at 1.6V on 4+1 unheatsinked!? DON'T DO IT, GET SOME HEATSINKS ON THOSE MOSFETS!
I complain about the MSI 790FX because it is very well known that they can die above 1.5V 24/7. Biostar boards are pretty decent with VRMs now, but with absolutely no cooling whatsoever (unheatsinked + tower cooling = not even air gets there) + so much voltage + high TDP to begin with, I don't recommend going this far at all.

I ran a one hour stress test w/ AMD OverDrive last night, and everything popped as an error after about 50 minutes if I remember correctly.

Think the only issue is the fan (should I get a better one, I'm still on stock)?

I'm at a 20.5 Multiplier (all cores), stock bus speed, and as I've said before, 1.5V for CPU voltage. I don't have any issues when doing regular things (browsing the Internet, playing TF2, etc.), but the stress tests just point out the instability after a while.

EDIT: Just reset back to stock settings to be safe. I'm going to try to get an aftermarket fan, see where it gets me. I don't see temperature as the problem though, it was like 31-33 degrees Celsius when I checked.

with just multi ? headscratch.gif
ever you try with FSB ?!?

it's just for competition wink.gif
this is good chip, more cooler than previous Deneb and got easier to 4.0ghz thumb.gif

GD70 dies with more than 1.5V? lol! you kids are funny.
if im not mistaken, someone on these here forums had that board up to 1.8some volts without issues.
ive personally had the same said board and 955 upto 1.6V on air.
Yes get a better cooler!
Why are you using stock when you are OCing, even though you intend to blow it for a competition only
