Sorry, I wasn't intentionally trying to keep this thread going as I have decided on purchasing the NZXT.

I will tell you why I decided to go this route

The NZXT Whisper is 109.99 Free shipping for me.

Cooler Master 4-in-3 For 24.99 (I already own one this will give me a total of 2)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817993002

1 PCI slot SSD Mount (cache drive) 12.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817998079

This gives me a total of 19 HDD mounts at 147.97 plus a little bit of shipping with Newegg.

8 drives in the 4-in-3's
9 native 3.5's
1 in the PCI
1 3.5 mounted in the external 3.5

I think this is the best bang for the buck I can come up with. I also avoid the 4U this way which I have gathered are generally noisy because noise is a non-issue in sever rooms.

there's no point in using an SSD for the cache drive - a 2.5" 7200 rpm drive will be a better bet (cheaper, still fits in the PCI mount, writes are just as fast, and you're limited by the network interface anyway).

flexraid is another alternative to unraid. They both are very similar in having one or two parity drives. However unraid is pay for pro licenses, while flex raid is free.

I would definitely look into it if i were in your position.

Yeah, I looked for information on that. I didn't find anything definitive. Right now I have a X25 40 GB intel SSD sitting as the cache drive. But I rarely see the the cache drive being used by unRaid.

I might put a cheap traditional 2.5 hdd in it just because I feel it is a waste of a SSD.

I already own two licenses of UnRaid Pro. Flexiraid is pretty nice; I have used it before.

Well, I have all of the items now for the server case except for the case its self. the case should be here tomorrow.

I have a question. I need a SATA card that has 4 ports or more, and fits in to a PCIe x1 slot. Well any PCIe slot for that matter. Does this exist.... I just need it to be a JBOD card. I looked on newegg; I didn't see one immediately. I'm not saying they don't have it, but I didn't find it in may search parameters.

I have been Playing around with the cache drive now. your right I'm not seeing much of a difference between the SSD and a 5K RPM drive. I don't have a 7200 2.5" drive laying around to test this further.

Im having the same issue, all the ones i seem to find end up being 3 SATA and 1 ESATA though ive seen a few multiplier ports around, you could try using multiplier board+esata card then you end up with 3 on the PCi-E card and 5 from the multiplier (Note im in UK so annoyingly ability to get things is diff to the US)
