I'm not sure if everyone realizes that clock speed between the processors most of us are used to and the clock speed of this snapdragon are completely different.

A single core snapdragon @ 1.5 will NOT have the same performance as a single core sempron @ 1.5. It's like saying if I only enabled one core on my i7 and had it at 2.0 it would match a Pentium. You can't simply transpose it over. Not to mention they won't do as well at certain things. I'm sure NV's Tegra will beat the hell out of it in the graphics department.

Indeed, its not the clock speed that counts, what matters is how much it can do per cycle.

Uh, Tegra 2 is a SoC. This is JUST a CPU, for all you know they could pair this with a GPU that beats Nvidia's ULP GPU into the ground.

I look forward to seeing this compete with Nvidia's project Denver.

@cindex

Qualcomm bought Imageon technologies from AMD after AMD bought them from ATI. I don't see Nvidia as having much of an advantage in experience (they have part of ATI's experience AND years of low power experience). The adreno 205 almost matches Tegra 2 GPU in most tests that I've seen. The upcoming 225 is supposedly 4x faster than that and the adreno 320 (the unit in this quadcore) is 7.5x faster than the adreno 205 (qualcomm says it is about as fast as the GPU in a PS3 or xbox).

The new core (krait) is supposed to go up against the upcoming A15 core from ARM. ARM claims a 50% boost in speed (I assume that this is a clock for clock boost). ARM seems intent on challenging x86 for control of everything battery powered.

I wonder if it's possible to firmware flash and do a cpu swap on my Galaxy S....

You would have to swap the entire circuit board out. The two aren't compatible (as is common for embedded electronics).

you guys should know that the quad core SoC will NOT be put into phones.
It will be put into devices that doesnt need a modem, though the manufactures can add their own modem modules

Krait huh? Kinda close to Krayt dragons from Star Wars. Wonder if Uncle George is gonna take issue with that.
