Ive been thinking my PC needs abit of an update its getting pretty slow and old. I'm going to rebuild/clean it and re-install windows this week but what upgrades would you guys recommend?

I was thinking GPU and PSU?

I dont have a budget but I dont want to go mad just a few little upgrades to keep it going smooth in games and general use.

So what would you recommend?

My first recommendation is an SSD. If your rig feels slow there's no better cure than a snappy SSD; now you can find good quality 60GB drives below 100$.

A second upgrade could be the graphics card, since the 4830 could be considered outdated. GTX 460, AMD 6850 or a more powerful 5850 would be good upgrades.

...for the PSU, I don't see any reason. If you upgrade the graphics card a 5850 consumes less than the 4830 so a PSU upgrade isn't interesting. My 2 cents.

If your going to reinstall, perhaps an SSD?
So far Ive seen the greatest performance boost from my SSD than any other component (general PC speed).

If not then a GPU, but of course you may need a bigger PSU to support the GPU lol.

My vote

1.SSD
2.PSU
3.GPU

4.MOBO, RAM, CPU (Down the track)

GPU could be upgraded. The 4830 doesn't have much power. You could go with a 6950 and then unlock to a 6970 for a performance increase. If you do that, like the poster above said, you'll need a PSU upgrade. The PSU should be something from Antec, Corsair, Seasonic, etc.

I'd go for new CPU, PSU and GPU.
The GTX460 or 6950 are both great choices, that old ATi card is a little weak these days.
For the CPU, either unlock your current chip (if it can do it) or go get yourself a quad core.
And the PSU, Thermaltake isn't the best of units, an Antec TPN 550 will do your rig plenty of justice and cope with any single GPU solution you can get on the market today.

Let me go poke around scan's site and find you some suggestions... brb with an edit.

Edit:
CPU choices.

Cheers for all the help guys.

I like the though of a 955 x4 and a 6850? What you think? Also the reason I was thinking about updating the PSU is its about 6 years old.

What are the CoolerMaster PSU's like?

Coolermaster PSU, just say no! (unless you buy the silent-pro gold)

All the ones I linked are recommended by the power supply forums and JonnyGuru's site.

Maybe toss in a quad core chip ? My 965 at 4.0 was amazing. It is only like 160 bucks right now, it will breath some life into your set up i guarantee it.
