Let me put it to you this way; do you think it's because AMD is your "friend" or a small, nice company that the 6 core 1090t is placed in the same price range as Intel quad cores such as the i7 920, i5 750 and the i5 2500k? Or it's because Intel is the big and evil company that the i7 980x is priced at 1k?
No, it's because AMD have evaluated their processor's capabilities and found that their 6-cored CPU can barely match a 4 cored Intel processor at nearly 1 Ghz less stock clock. Now if that isn't backwards technology, I don't know what is.
It would be the equivalent of ATI countering the GTX 5xx with Radeon 4xxx cards. There is simply no competition. AMD is currently 2 gens behind. Will they catch up? I certainly hope so.
I'm also sure if AMD came with a powerful processor similar to what the i7 980x is (compared to other available options), it would also price it similarly.Edited by born2bwild - 2/14/11 at 7:10pm
