Need some upgrade advice

Hi, so basically my PC seems to being bottlenecked by my graphics card, I can run Doom 3 on max settings with anti aliasing at 2x with good framerate, at 4x is where it starts slowing down, I'm looking to upgrade my gfx card but I am unsure what I require, I need something thats got horsepower under the hood but for a budget price, I am not a extreme PC gamer and only game slightly such as the likes: GTA SA (online), Doom 3, etc. I want to be able to run doom 3 on 16x anti aliasing. my mobo supports a PCI-E 16x card.

Windows Experience Index:

Processor: 6.3
Memory : 5.5
Graphics: 3.7
Gaming Graphics: 3.6
Primary Hard disk: 5.8

Specs:

- Intel e5200 dualcore CPU oc'ed to 2.88ghz
- 2GB DDR2 667mhz ram
- Nvidia 7200/7300 GS/SE, overclocked by 40%, so running at 140%.
- Asus P5KPL-AM EPU mobo
- Maxtor 250GB SATA 7200RPM HDD
- 650w PSU
- Windows 7

What's your budget?

Right now I think NVIDIA has ATI beat in price/performance category.

The NVIDIA GTX 560 Ti is $250 and the newest/fastest card in this range
The NVIDIA GTX 460 is $150, and a steal at that price.
You could also look at the ATI Radeon HD6850/6870.

Any of the above cards will give you DX11 capability and be a HUGE improvement over your current GPU.

What is your budget? What brand of 650W PSU is it? Something new such as a GT450 would be ~ $100 and would give you more than you need if those are the only games that your using.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814125341 $90 after mail in rebate

If your looking even cheaper - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814131366 ATI 5670 would be $60 AMIR, also good performance for the $$ and would fit your system

Your demands don't seem to be that high so you would probably find it pointless to buy a 100$+ graphics card. For these games I would go with a Radeon 5570 DDR5 or a 5670, depending on your budget. They are much faster than your current setup and they have quite a decent OCing headroom, prices should start at about 50-60$. Also good alternatives (if you find them at a discount somewhere) could be the older Radeon 4650/4670.

So you have a few options that would play your games with 4x AA and quite a bit more FPS than your current setup. You probably noticed I didn't advice any Nvidia card, that's just because they don't have anything close to competitive in this sub 75$ segment, aside maybe the GT 240 (GT 440 is worse oddly enough) - but it has lower performance and older tech than the Radeons.

*EDIT: If your budget reaches 100$ the GTS 450 and the Radeon 5750 are good cards, but they could be overkill.

budget is about £45ish, so yes about 65 bucks.

Powersupply is made by a crap brand, winpower, but tbh its served me well so far. apparently outputs 44A divide by 2 12v rails.

Btw I was also wondering if there is any need to upgrade my HDD to a SSD?

thanks.

Alright, with your budget I will revise my recommendation to the ATI 4670, which someone else also recommended. Can be found on sale in the US for $65.

With your current setup, a SSD would not offer you much improvement for the high cost. An upgrade that might be worth it for you would be doubling your RAM to 4GB. Windows 7 loves RAM and will cache most of your unused memory so your frequently used programs load quicker.

Well for £45 you wont be able to afford and SSD and you would be better investing in new everything else before you get an SSD!

the GPU is where I would invest but you will need about £90 for new GTS450.

You can get second hand GTX260 on Ebay fro around your budget so that is probably the best chance of an upgrade.

thanks, I'll go for a ATI 4670 and upgrade ram to 4GB 800mhz, hopefully will be a large improvement.
