I didn't know you got locked out for hitting the buzzer before the question was finished, I just thought it was set up to prevent registering buzzing in before it was finished. If the latter was the case, an NES or SNES controller would be far better because you could just be mashing buttons the entire time.
Personally, I think the SNES controller was slightly better for mashing, but I think my perception may be slightly skewed by hardware/software (ie: very few titles) limitations of the NES somewhat hindering its mashing capabilities. In any event, you could also violently slam either of them on the ground when you answered a question wrong without fear of breakage.
