hi guys,

really want to learn HTML and CSS but everytime i decide to I end up stopping because i cant really find any good material that really explains what to do and stuff, just some random dude on his blog or something...

Wheres the best place to get learning material?
Should i use dreamweaver?

:::EDIT:::

can i just jump straight into HTML 5 or do i have to learn previous ones?

When I started learning I first read up on the basic structure of html.

It was only after trial and error and trying out new code that I never used before did I finally learned.

I go here to learn new material.

http://www.w3schools.com/

Newbies should use notepad2

Use notepad so you develop debugging skills. As said previously, w3schools is a great resource. You do not need to learn the previous versions of HTML as they are simply based on improvements from the last. Some things with HTML5 will not be compatible with current browsers, but luckily for you most tutorials are based around HTML as a whole not just each iteration.

I think you should go for html4 and once you're comfortable with that, "upgrade" to html5

Also, take my advice with a grain of salt. I am by no means a software programmer (I'm a mechanical engineering student) but I have made webpages before.

Add this to your bookmarks if you decide to go to the path of javascript as well. Javascript syntax checker!

I second using w3schools. It's a great website.

As far as IDE's go I use Visual Studio because it's free for students, but dreamweaver is another good one I think.

Don't insult some random dude on his blog, especially when he has the answer to your question!
