Asus GTX 580 Direct CU II or Gainward GTX580 Phantom?

Thread Starter
So, i decided that i'm on the single GPU route. I was expecting the release of the 590 ... but really ... what the hell ... 580 will run everything at 1920x1200 ...

So, now i have these 2 under consideration

a) Asus GTX580 Direct CU 2
b) Gainward GTX580 Phantom

Which do you think is the best bet from what you know?

I going towards the Asus ... but ... i still don't know
Your help is very welcome

I'm an asus fanboy so I would trust the directcu more however the phantom review looks insane.

I might mention that the phantom consumes even more power but you have a 295 and an i7 so you obviously don't care

Direct CU 2 FTW!

ASUS is the way to go..their no nonsense warranty just wins..you send it in, they send you something back fixed, end of story. Quality product with a quality warranty is an easy choice

GTX 590!

Or if you want cards currently released I would say the ASUS DirectCUII.

The Asus DCII is probably the most badass GPU ive ever seen. Its just awesome. You do know that Shimano overclocked this card to 1519Mhz core an LN2 right ? I really wish I could get the GTX 570 version here in Denmark, but noone sells them. I would definitely go with Asus.

Yes... i was thinking in warranty too. I know that Asus works really well in Europe... No word about Gainward though :x

Bastyn yeah, i know For now it will be air cooled... but who knows if a certain company won't release some waterblocks. My main thing about this versions is the upgraded VRM designs...

As for the GTX590, the problem is that, from the release date to fully availability ... if that rumor about " exclusivity & limited availability " is true ... meh ...

Even though DirectCU has proved to be a great cooling solution, the Phantom impressed me more from what I've read so far. Nevertheless they're both great choices.

But if it were up to me I'd always pick a stock card and slap an AC Xtreme Plus on it. Can't get any closer to WC temps on air with that.

DirectCU, from what i've read it has impressively updated components such as voltage regulators etc.

Would be my choice, + Asus are a quality brand.
