GTX480SLI or GTX580.

Poll Results: What would be your choice?

  • 57% (28)
Add another GTX480 = GTX480SLI (fast, hot, power eater)

Hi, I'm having a MSI GTX480 right now, Crysis 2 is going to be released soon so I'm in need of more horsepower for my PC. Which option should I pick? Sell my current 480 and get another single GTX580 or add another GTX480 and be happy with my SLI setup?
GTX580 = a little bit faster in old games but would be more future proof for new upcoming game IMO. It also runs much cooler, energy saving...blah blah...
GTX480SLI = a beast, performs pretty fast at non-SLI supported games (Rare now I think), and crazily fast at the rest. But, It would eat up my electricity bill for sure, the output heat also needs to be taken into account too.
I made a poll so that the result may be a bit more obvious at the end.

I would add another 480 for SLI with Crysis since it will take advantage of it.

But I would also caution you to wait till it comes out to get another or newer card to see if it even needs that kind of horsepower. Cards will be cheaper by then anyways.

If it's me, I sell the 480 and move up to the 580. The new non reference cooling designs on the 580 are beastly, on top of the already cooler and less power hungry chipset. If you want to run Crysis 2 at max and all that crazy stuff, then maybe the 480 SLI is better, but for me I wouldn't reinvest in the 480 as it has done nothing but depreciate in value over the past months.

Why are you asking this easy questions, Sell a card and get 10% improvement or none if your overclocked??!??! Or get 2 of these amazing cards and get 90-100% improvement. The electricity bill issue puzzles me. You spending over $1500 on a computer to play games and your worried about $1-5 extra maybe a month if its on and running fully for 12 hours a day? When your computer is idle or your not playing games..Only 1 GPU is functioning.

The point is dont waste your money getting the gtx 580. I have two 480's overclocked and it runs Crysis 2 perfectly. Actually the Beta isnt even SLi and 1 gtx480 runs it perfectly maxed out. Im sure two might be needed when retail comes out for DX11 etc...

Everyone that is telling you to sell your gtx 480 prob just wants to buy it since u can get em for like 300 bucks which is a steal considering the overpriced gtx 580 is 500 bucks and when overclocks are taken in consideration I see no reason to get a gtx 580 until the price is closer to 400.

Get another 480gtx, anything else would be a waste of time/money.

I did the same thing when I was buying my 9800gtx+'s I could have sold the ones I had and then upgraded but tri-sli 9800gtx+ is just as good a stock clocked gtx 295. Yet the gtx 295 at the time was a bit more expensive and not really worth all the hassle of trying to sell the cards and buying new ones.

Also the GTX295 is very limited by memory and bandwidth. Getting Two gtx 295's is plain retarded in my opinion. I say 1 gtx 295 is best for a 1680x1050 resolution and thats it.

Well so is my 9800gtx+'s as I have the 512mb flavor. Hence the reason why I need to get rid of 2 of mine and get a gtx 570/580 for a reasonable upgrade.
