I don't think its going to be that bad.

Per core performance is up from Phenom II but from what I've read from JF it doesn't seem to be their main focus.

Bulldozer will be faster the Phenom II per core and provide 2 more cores than thuban with better power thermals as well.

It should overclock better than Phenom II and at stock its going to have a new type of trubo mode that boosts clocks based on how many modules are active.

I feel that AMD will deliver. They're spending too much money on Bulldozer for it not to be a competition for Sandy Bridge in more than Price vs. Performance.

I am however not pleased that Biostar hasn't said much about their AM3+ boards or any Bios update they may or may not do. Makes me anxious. Also makes me wanna either upgrade to an AM3+ ready board or just jump ship to Intel.

And up to TDP, so they should "turbo up" as high as they can with stock settings, not to a predefined limit of say 500Mhz.

When AMD started designing BD they didn't say "We have to design something that competes with Sandy Bridge (that no one had heard of) that will released in 5 years time...).

They must have simply said "How can we design a better cpu?".

What the competition comes out with at the time of launch is purely coincidence, all you can do is have a goal specification/performance, and try to match or exceed it.

At this point in time all I'm worried about is scientific computing. I already have a rig that's gameable (might upgrade to an HD7xxx series later down the road but for now it can play pretty much whatever I throw at it) and to get a BD it's all about scientific computing performance (and possibly a BD/Opteron server down the road if that's the path the company I'm working for during my co-op decides to take (it's a small business and I'm supposed to bring some "fresh ideas" to the table)).

The 8 core Bulldozer FX will trade licks with the 2600k with the 2600k coming out on top in the end, but Bulldozer FX 8 core will be about 100 bucks cheaper

AMD's 4 core Bulldozer offerings will compete with the i3 2100,etc.

So after the smoke clears, AMD owner's will get a nice upgrade with great motherboard compatibility and upgrade in droves. Intel users will say "meh" and stick with SB then upgrade to Ivy Bridge when its time, sort of like the Q6600 to Q9550 upgrade path. Continued daily fanboism from both sides will occur.

The end.
That is the most sane thing I have seen posted on this thread for a long time.
Whether AMD goes epic, near equals or misses, its going to light a fire under Intel, because the bulldozer is a different approach to CPU architecture.
I like the Idea of Intel having to push a bit (means better performance for all).

Up Competition!

Down Fanboism!

The complete lack of "leaked" benchmarks has me concerned. Before SB we already knew what kind of performance to expect per clock, and prior to its release we were already hearing about it doing 5GHz or more on air.
