Who gives a crap if it has more cores compared to the competition? AMD won't be "cheating" here. Price point and performance are all that matters. If AMD can offer an 8 core bulldozer CPU for the same price as the 4 core 8 thread i7 2600k while outperforming it then bulldozer will be successful.

That's what I'm talking about! A bench of quad v. quad!

Now the real question is can Bulldozer hit 5.5GHz+ as the 2600k can?

sorery it is suppose to be 20% better then the sandy bridge which gets 23,731 on vantage which equals up to 28,477 for ivy bridge then the game is going to be very close for the top cpu if these benches are true

Ok well I hope this is true but there are some things that have me concerned.

1. Knowing that the chipset will be exactly the same for the most part as AM3 which means there are little to no advances in the previous design.

2. I want to know AMDs roadmap, the last one I seen was just filled with more and more cores. I want higher IPC, not just more cores.

3. When is a new architecture going to come out? Are they going to ride this one till they fall so far behind again?

I love AMD, but when I built my new sig rig there was no point in spending the same amount of money on a X6 when I could get a 2500k that blows it out of the water.

It is not an 8 core cpu. It is a quad core cpu with AMD's version of hyper-threading in the form of their modules. Ala 4 core 8(modules) threads. If they had 8 cores it would be an 8 core 16 (module) thread cpu.

I love AMD, but when I built my new sig rig there was no point in spending the same amount of money on a X6 when I could get a 2500k that blows it out of the water.
First AMD is using a completely redesigned architecture. The phenom or k10 (k something not sure if we were at 10) were based off their older architecture without a substantial update in clock for clock performance vs intel. If chipsets are a concern why are you sitting with a faulty intel one get that rmaed (had to throw that in). What is it you could be looking for in a chipset that amd does not already offer? Sata 4 (DNE) , PCIE 3.0 (DNE in consumer markets)sandy bridge did not add that to the game, ect...

Roadmaps have been posted many, many times take some time to look around. Don't expect intel not to go the more core route as fabs get smaller you can pack more into a cpu. Hence ivy being 6/8/12 cores with 12/16/24 threads. Intel is doing the same.

This is their new architecture, they road their last one while eeking every little bit out of it. I don't blame them they never positioned themselves as the clock for clock champs. They were the mainstream users answer to an affordable system with easy upgrades without having to update your current setup. Yet to be seen if they stay that route with their new architecture. (If you want a quick EX: of that i can run to microcenter get an AMD quad core (x4 640 athlon) with a free motherboard for 110$ before rebate and after taxes. If i went to get an Intel cpu at that price i would be getting a 4-5 year old dualcore and mobo used.)

Lastly, why are you comparing an x6 to the newly released sandybridge?

Yea it's very tiring reading all of these people critisizing AMD for "throwing more cores" at their processors as some sort of panicked effort to increase performance. It is more complicated than that. Really what they are doing is significantly improving upon the same concept Intel had when they developed hyperthreading. The 8 cores are cores, yes, but not in a traditional sense.

What it comes down to is, if it is the same price and on the same piece of silicon but performs better, the number of "cores" it has doesn't mean anything. The architecture is superior plain and simple.
