[JQ] Mirrors Edge 2 Cancelled - Page 9

so disappointing. i thought this was a good game. when the first came out, it was very fresh and original. a bit short but thats to be expected in this day in age. even the free cd soundtrack threw me off when i first opened the game case. never seen a game offer that. oh well i guess.

I'm not too surprised, I absolutely loved the concept and the game itself was really fun, but there were major problems.

1. the plot was absolutely ho-hum and inconsequential to the gameplay, the gameplay deserves a sequel, the plot does not. Hopefully the engine/concept doesn't completely die, this would be absolutely killer for a Matrix video game that would actually be very good, for instance - "you see an agent? you do what we do - run - run your ass off..."

2. it was really short - this wouldn't have been a bad thing if there was more legitimate replay value through some sort of interactive multiplayer beyond trying to beat your friends' best time trial scores.

3. no multiplayer and no customize maps. this game would have absolutely taken off if users could create their own running grounds amongst the rooftops or wherever.

4. while I admire the break away from stereotypical FPS it was just too severe with very little choice given to the gamer. A class system with different runners with different attributes would have been far more enjoyable where you could play as a runner that was adept with fire arms but worse at actually running and so on. Heck, they could have even built an emphasis on fire arms but just flood parts with so many AI that it would be suicide to try and stand your ground and thus at least force you to run to find an advantage.

5. a larger environment with more tools could really make a game like this incredibly appealing. Think Mirror's Edge + Bad Company 2's parachute. Of course I wouldn't necessarily want a parachute that was so easy use over and over but I think you get the idea. As huge and open as ME felt, it really was a small and restrictive environment.

6. some of the parts of the game were simply too tedious and could really spoil the fun, the absolute best parts of the game (at least IMO) were when you were running full out and busting through doors and jumping from roof to roof while dodging bullets and escaping from pursuers. I didn't enjoy (at least not as much) the parts where I had to absolutely come to a stop to figure out how the heck I was supposed to get out of a tricky room, and in some cases do it over and over.

ME wasn't a masterpiece but it was certainly an original, innovative, and fun game. I really enjoyed it despite the so-so second half and the shortness of it. I'm positive they would've worked all these things out in the sequel. This is a shame =\\

The original was all hype and I'm glad the second sequel to this junk has been scrapped. Now all I need to hear is the ME3, as in Mass Effect 3, release date moved up and all will be good. To think that Mass Effect has to share it's initials with this crap in the first place should have been reason enough to scrap this project.

I mean I love DICE and their BF series and this decision tells me they know what they are doing.

What if they put Mirrors Edge together with BF3 in some kind of Frankenstien type combo, where when out of ammo you can run up drop kick the MEC soldier... Or Do a backflip off a skyscrapper, fire a rocket launcher mid-air and then land inside of a Enemy Chopper, kill all of them inside, land the chopper and save a few American POWs, and then steal a different chopper to return to base.....Sorry I just had a Badass-gasim.
