Crossfire HD 6870 & Eyefinity FPS Issues - Page 3

1gb is not enough for 5760x resolutions, so the cards run out of memory. When you crossfire/sli 2 cards which run out of memory, the result is worse than running it on one card. Try lowering the details of the games (no aa, af, medium textures, etc) , in order not to run out of video memory and you will see that crossfire is working. You can also use less demanding games, to test if crossfire works. I believe it would be better to sell those 6870 and get 1 6950/6970 2gb.

So how is it that one of the cards runs better than both incrossfire at the same settings if I essentially have half the memory?

I don't know why it happens, neither i can explain it with technical terms. I just have noticed that it does happen most of the time. Try lowering the details and see if it works.

I'll rather just pull one video card and have the single video card run it all better.

The only thing left to try is to upgrade your motherboard from the x16/x4 to a x16/x16 or x8/x8 board.

I believe you have a x16 and x 4 rail on that board IMO...not the best for Xfire, lots of issues with that board and BTW, when you get the chance OC that CPU a little bit or I see a bottleneck coming in the future

Yes because telling someone automatically they need to spend more money before we attempt every no-cost option is always the best route.

To be honest I didnt say anything before because I saw it was talked about on the other forum he posted this thread on. I simply felt nice enough to google for 2 days to see what other options there were that wouldnt cost him anything to try.
