New Rig Time. [You Design, i'll Build]

Thread Starter
Hello everyone, its been a while its good to be back. Alright so here is whats going on. My current rig is for the most part 4-5 years old and needs an update, So i have ordered 2 new 5870's as they were on sale for 120 bucks off. and wan't to build a rig around that.

Rather disappointed from the Sandy Bridge fail-o-release, so thinking maybe going back to AMD would be better.

Budget : $500 to $1500 (Though its not set in stone, if i absolutely love a build im willing to go higher. Not including the things i already have)

- Specs -
- Needs to be portable enough for taking to LAN parties.
- Needs to fit 2 X Saphire 5870's 2GB in XFire.
- Needs to also fit an Asus Xonar D2X PCIEx1 sound card.
- Transplanting a 2TB WD and 300GB WD Raptor. (Is SSD Justifiable for their prices?)

I don't care for onboard sound/video, possibly might do some more water cooling or going to look into Phase-Change cooling (don't know how portable this is, but yah needs to remain portable.)

But i will pretty much need to buy everything else. Keep in mind it can't be a ridiculously expensive machine, keep it reasonable. Thanks. (I will probably need a new case so go to after my last Antec 900.)

And have some fun with the build. Chiao

Without a budget we could recommend a $500 rig or a $5000 rig.

AFAIK, phase change is far from portable; you need some major hardware. Your best bet is either an awesome air cooler, or a sealed water loop like Corsair's Hydro offerings.

All in one kits are best for LAN Parties, no risk of any air bubles sloshing around your loop and getting your pump.

For an inexpensive LAN party PC, why not just go air? You wouldn't see much return in performance for the money you'd spend on premium cooling.

My Bad, I thought i had included that. The budget well theres no solid budget but lets just say im not cheap either. With the stuff i have now not included in the budget lets say a range from $500 to $1500 (Though its not set in stone, if i absolutely love a build im willing to go higher.)

I have made a few edits to my original post.

So what I've gathered is that you need a new tower, minus HDD and GPUs, + monitor, keyboard, mouse, OS, speakers, for $1500?

Is that correct? What kind of preference do you have in terms of peripherals?

well your going to have to go atx since you got 2 5870s and a sound card you want in there. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811112218 there is a case that might be ideal, although the airflow doesn't look to be the best, but it would work with like a H50/H70 and front fan. You could also drill your own fan holes. You could also easily mount a handle or other things on the top of that case too.

look for a core i5 760/core i7 870/core i7 2500K? (might not want now, and can't even get now because of recall)
maybe even a 1366 system, but im not sure if that smart this late. You should be able to get a pretty high end system since you already have the gfx cards. (8Gb, >160GB ssd, nice monitor, anything else you could think of.

you also might want to wait until bulldozer becomes more clear, which might be a while but its your choice.

EDIT: I read that you was looking to go AMD, well then its pretty easy now you gotta go with the 1055T or 1075T and if your lazy then get a black edition, but really they O/C the same if your looking that route. The crosshair IV motherboard series is the best on the AMD socket, for high end at least but with your budget you should be able to afford that.
