Unless you run surround or 2560x1600, cough.

Yeah, let's wait for Ivy Bridge as well. Ah while we're on it, let's just wait for a whole new generation of everything.

The reason I never got a 4th card is because the scaling was miniscule and sometimes actually was not even apparent.

But the point that versa makes is very good.

3 cards each has its own power/cooling/pci-express. So they are not sharing the bandwidth/power/heat.
Just like 2 x275s are faster than a 295.

I haven't posted in a while but I have a bit of a dilemma and need some opinions.

I had 3x evga gtx480's ftw edition that I bought and was very happy with. However within the 90 day step up period the gtx580 was released so I decided to step up the cards. I stepped them up in november and it took until just yesterday for me to be able to send my cards in to get 3x gtx580's.

But now, everyone is talking about the gtx590 and I want to know whether or not it would be wise to sell the new cards I get in a few days and try to buy 2 gtx590's?

I build a new rig every 2-3 years depending on whats out at the time so I always buy the best so that it lasts but I want to make sure that if I sell my new cards and put maybe 100 dollars on top if it will be a wise thing to do?

Any comments/opinions would be much appreciated.
Quad SLI scaling historically is worse than tri SLI scaling, and I would assume the same for today's cards.

I remember reading how 3 GTX 280s were in actually faster than 2X GTX 295s.

There is no indication if the 590 is even going to be 2X 580's, but even if it ends up being so, there is a large chance that 3 GTX 580s are faster than 2 590s.

I dont see why you need 3 580's in the first place unless it is for benchmarking. And if you want the possible highest score, I would stay away from quad SLIing the 590.

For 2D surround, I say SLI is enough.

Keep with the 580's, at least until there are some reviews and benches out of the 590. I'm predicting driver issues, and possibly Quad SLI issues (always has been a bit , with both scaling and drivers)
