Not comparable. Also, why take 3 cards when you can get the same (if not more) performance with 2?

Just like 2 x275s are faster than a 295.
So does that mean that 3x gtx580's will be better than 2x gtx590's?

There is alot of new stuff that is coming out this year. I'm pretty sure his 3, 580's will be able to play everything that comes out this year

From every review ad benchmark I've seen 3 cards is almost necessary when playing at 2560x1600 and preforms better. If that was not the case then I would have gotten 2.

No one knows, yet.

Which is true, but if money is not an issue, I'd still go with 2 cards over 3.

As soon as I use the 580's I can't sell them at full price.

This.

People who can't stand having a PC that's not the most up to date are retarded. Seriously, there are others who don't have the luxury of upgrading every half quarter like you. It's irritating to no end. I will admit I used to do it but I made some really dumbass choices doing so.

I say, don't do it. If there's any scaling problems at your resolution, it'll only get worse upon release of the 590. And we don't really know if the actual thing is going to be twin 580s or just twin 560s. I'm betting on twin 570s in all honesty, as I couldn't see twin 580s being cooled effectively enough, much less powered fully.
